The first episode of our podcast 'Changing the Table' is out

In this very first episode our host Seden sets out to unmask the key obstacles migrants face that hinder their ability to have a say in the decisions that affect them. We are joined by Shawgi Ahmed, Director of Public Leadership at the PLACE Network, who shares his insights stemming from over 12 years of experience working with migrants, and by Olivia Long, Managing Editor at the Migration Policy Group, who conducted interviews with representatives of New European communities to map obstacles to political participation and recommendations on eliminating them.

Join this first webinar of the New Europeans Initiative, which will examine the obstacles that stand in the way of civic and political participation of New Europeans, and discuss the possibilities that exist for closing the participation gap. We will present our new report that analyses interviews conducted with New European representatives across the EU on the barriers they face and the suggestions they have for policymakers. The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion.

Last week MPG’s Dr. Başak Yavçan joined a roundtable discussion on Local and regional multi-stakeholder approaches for more effective inclusion processes in Europe at the Include-EU Final Conference organised by IOM.

Besides MIPEX's data on national integration policies, MPG now also gathers data on policies at the regional – Regin (MIPEX-R) – and local levels – Whole-COMM (MIPEX-L).

It underscores the importance of local governments’ involvement in providing resources to facilitate social interactions and recommends collaboration with civil society and migrant-owned businesses to organize events that promote intergroup communication.
