Europe needs safe pathways, not naval blockades

Europe's approach to people migrating should be balanced and humane. In an interview with ARD , MPG's Senior Legal Policy Analyst Carmine Conte responds to the news that EU policymakers are considering a military naval blockade. "Militarising our maritime borders risks making voyages of people migrating to Europe more dangerous and play into the hands of smugglers."

MPG’s Dr. Başak Yavçan discusses comparative research on integration at Includ-EU final conference

"MPG is known for its work on comparatively assessing national migrant integration policies via its extensive network of national experts in the EU and beyond." Last week MPG’s Dr. Başak Yavçan joined a roundtable discussion on Local and regional multi-stakeholder approaches for more effective inclusion processes in Europe at the Include-EU Final Conference organised by IOM.

Besides MIPEX's data on national integration policies, MPG  now also gathers data on policies at the regional – Regin (MIPEX-R) – and local levels – Whole-COMM (MIPEX-L).

Whole-COMM's new policy brief presents a multifaceted approach to increasing opportunities for encounters between recent migrants and long-term residents. It underscores the importance of local governments’ involvement in providing resources to facilitate social interactions and recommends collaboration with civil society and migrant-owned businesses to organize events that promote intergroup communication.
