Dear
,

Following the recent EU election results, MPG and other rights organisations issued a joint press release warning against conceding to the extreme right, which seeks to erode human rights and the rule of law. The stronger presence of far-right forces in the European Parliament poses significant threats to advancing policies of inclusion and respect for human rights. It is crucial for the new European Parliament to reiterate its commitment to fundamental values of equality and non-discrimination, ensuring these principles remain central in the new European Commission's work program.

We are pleased to announce the second edition of the Democracy Academy, part of MPG’s New European Initiative. We welcome applications from emerging New European leaders – people with various migration background interested in political participation. The academy is a valuable opportunity those of you who want to weigh in on policymaking, amplify their voices and share knowledge with peers. We look forward to hearing from you.

This month, we are proud to have published two new publications. The first is a policy report on migrant education, examining the availability of migration education data in 14 EU Member States. The second publication, from the New European Website on Integration (EWSI), maps the policies and practices in EU Member States for providing bridging courses to third-country nationals with partially recognized skills and qualifications.

In this newsletter, you will also find updates about our experts workshop for our project on Tackling Structural & Institutional Racism in 8 EU Member States and our EU Election video series aimed at mobilising people to vote.

Lastly, we have an exciting opportunity at MPG as we are looking for a new research intern to join our team. The application deadline is the 14th of July!

Warm regards,

Isabelle Chopin, Director of MPG

The new report on migrant education is out

In the new report, Towards Better Data for Migrant Education: A Mapping of Data Availability in 14 EU Member States, Sinem Yilmaz examines the availability of migration education data in 14 EU Member States. It dives deep into the state of migrant education data, highlighting significant variations in data availability, quality, and categorization across different EU countries.

This report provides key insights into harmonising data collection to improve the educational experiences of migrants, addressing both challenges and opportunities. It also discusses the implications of these findings and offers recommendations to inform educational strategies and policies.

Experts workshop on tackling structural & institutional racism in 8 EU Member States

At MPG, together with our partners, we are committed to creating key legal and policy recommendations at both the national and European levels to fight structural racism.

Last week, we held an experts' workshop for our project “Tackling Structural & Institutional Racism in 8 EU Member States”. Organised by MPG and supported by the Robert Bosch Stiftung, this initiative fosters strong collaboration and synergy among researchers, civil society organisations, and racialised communities at the national level to combat structural and institutional racism.

In our video series featuring brief interviews with country experts, you can gain a deeper understanding of each Member State and explore the impact of structural racism in their countries.

The New European Website on Integration (EWSI) launches analysis on bridging courses and qualification recognition for third-country nationals in the EU

EWSI is the only EU-wide source bringing up-to-date information and good practices on migrant integration for policy makers and practitioners. MPG started working on the creating of EWSI for the European Commission's Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs in 2007, and has been running the project ever since, with website visits increasingly exponentially over the past few years.

This latest report maps the policies and practices in EU Member States for providing bridging courses to third-country nationals with partially recognized skills and qualifications. Based on input from 27 national integration experts, the analysis outlines the objectives, availability, and accessibility of these courses, highlights good practices, and presents common challenges.

Second edition of the Democracy Academy is now open!

Applications for the second edition of MPG’s Democracy Academy are now open. The academy comes back to boost the civic and political participation of New Europeans. During the series of online events, the participants engage with Democracy Academy Speakers – experienced migrant leaders with proven successes in work related to the themes of the academy.

EU election video series

Prior to the EU elections 2024, MPG produced a video series in which each staff member, representing diverse backgrounds, shared their views on why voting is important to them. With this initiative, we aimed to mobilise and encourage people to vote in the EU elections, emphasising the significance of every vote in shaping our collective future.
