The future EU must uphold the right to asylum in Europe
MPG, alongside human rights organisations, signed a joint letter urging the EU and its Member States to protect the right to territorial asylum in Europe.
To ensure that refugees can access protection, states must guarantee the right to seek and uphold their commitments to the international refugee protection system. This obligation applies to all EU Member States under Article 18 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. Yet, the recent and increasing attempts by the EU and its Member States to evade their asylum responsibilities by outsourcing asylum processing and refugee protection risk undermining the international protection system.
MPG at IMISCOE 2024: Leading the discussion on migration and integration
From July 2-5, 2024, MPG attended the IMISCOE Conference in Lisbon, Portugal. This prestigious event is a key platform for sharing the latest research on migration and integration in Europe. MPG highlighted its dedication to improving migrant integration by focusing on political participation, local integration efforts, and EU migration policies.
Başak Yavçan and Sinem Yilmaz presented findings on migrant political participation, addressing policy obstacles and showcasing the migrant political participation policy index, which highlights leaders and laggards in this area while identifying significant barriers to meaningful engagement.
The Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX) is a unique tool which measures integration policies in 56 countries across 8 policy areas. It provides up-to-date, comprehensive research data and analysis on which to base policies, proposals for change and projects.
Here are this month's MIPEX citations:
